All words used to describe the feeling of guilt that comes over you when you haven't "performed" in a specific way.
"I should've smiled more".
"I should've been happier".
"I should've done my hair better".
"I should've worn something else".
"I should be at a different stage in life already".
"I shouldn't have missed that mark".
"I should've been there".
See what I mean?
A situation happens and, if it doesn't pan out as planned, you revert into finding out that flaw you, yourself, brought into the result.
The pursuit of a perfect state, or a perfect outcome, is a never-ending story. It's the dangling carrot attached to the front of your shirt.
But let's say you do reach a perfect outcome, how would that look for you? Most often than not, that outcome doesn't result in the desired state of contentment and satisfaction.
It results in feelings of guilt and anxiety simply because the belief of having done better clouds the moment.
Which then brings you back to the start of seeking that perfection.
Rather than putting your effort into what you're doing, in that moment, your mindset focuses on the lack - the things you think you're not doing well.
Understanding the foundation of your perfectionism is as important as understanding when you're being a perfectionist.
When fear takes over, it looks like control and perfection. A fear of failure, of unfulfilled potential, of unattainable goals shows up as excuses with inaction; control over the situation.
Procrastination for not having every piece of the puzzle before starting.
Rather than start, put all the effort you can with what you have and learn from the results.
Seeking perfection can keep you stuck in a never-ending cycle of discontent. Because why attempt anything if the result won't be quite perfect, right?

The "I can't get my torso that aligned to the floor so why bother practicing" mindset - I hear it, you've probably heard it (if not said it!).
