I decided to call this a St. Paddy's Day name because, well, I'm publishing it on that day but it's a great addition to your immune building habits at any time...especially during the change of the season into Spring.

This juice is a combination of both a cold-press and a herbal decoction.

If you're new to this term (decoction), welcome to the world of herbalism! Don't let it spook you, it's really quite simple :)

The idea behind this recipe came from spring season and the variety of flu systems many experience during this change - aside from colds, there are a lot of allergies that seem to get exasperated.

Many benefits come with this decoction: digestion, blood sugar, immune. So, having said that, it's important to understand that this recipe can be quite potent. If you have any medical condition, please consult your doctor and/or alternative health care provider.

Spring Immune Booster

Dry Herb Ingredients:
32 star anise
4 cinnamon sticks
2 tbsp orange peel
2 tbsp ginger root, dried
1 tbsp ashwaganda root

Fresh Ingredients:
4 handfuls of baby spinach
1 apple, your favourite
5 cups water

Directions:
Boil water & dry ingredients for 5 minutes. Reduce to simmer on medium heat for 30 minutes. Remove decoction from heat and allow to cool.

In a juicer, juice your apple and spinach. The result will be close to half a cup only.

Combine your juice with only 1 c of your decoction.

Sip and enjoy!!

Store the remaining decoction in a mason jar. You can enjoy the rest as a tea by adding half to a cup and half warm water.
